Fall in love with the sound of your own voice.

Updated: Nov 18, 2019

If you're anything like me, the first time I recorded an affirmation in my own voice and played it back, all I could think was, "Damn I can't believe that's what my voice sounds like!".

The truth was, I didn't like the sound of my own voice. Not to mention, I sound like I'm a hillbilly from Utah! I wanted to delete my voice recording and make new ones that sounded different, but no matter how many times I tried to create new affirmations with different words and phrases I still sounded the same. So I decided, to Hell with it! I'm recording a whole bunch of positive affirmations and I have to get over how much I want to judge and critique the sound of my voice and the way I talk.

One of my favorite times to listen to affirmations is when I'm working out or taking a run, but I also love to listen to my iTunes playlists that get me motivated and keeps my energy up during my workout. So, I play my music loud and my affirmations in subliminal mode so that I couldn't really hear my affirmations playing other than in between songs. During one of my runs, my music stopped playing because of a bad internet connection and I could hear my affirmations playing very low in the background. I decided to just keep running while I listened closely to my affirmation playlist. I began to notice that my body seemed to be getting little bursts of energy when I heard myself saying I AM strong and healthy.

So I decided to experiment and have some fun with my own voice. I recorded some affirmations specific to running, like "my body is full of energy and I easily run a 10 minute mile". I pushed my running affirmations on my Empower app and then stacked my favorite running music playlist on my iTunes and started running. As I ran my mind seemed to be laser focused on how much energy I felt in my body and I smashed my 10 minute mile by 50 seconds when I made it to one mile in 9:10. But I wasn't done yet, so I kept running to see if I could smash 2 miles in 20 minutes, not only did I make it to 2 miles in under 20 minutes, I made it to 3 miles in 28:40 for an average of 9:34 per mile over 3 miles!

After running my little tests, I have come to realize that I can tap into a hidden POWER within my own voice to coach myself and help me accomplish my goals in life. The more I listen to my recorded affirmations the more I have grown to LOVE the sound of my own voice!

As I have coached people on how to create personal affirmation recordings I have noticed that whenever someone hears their own voice their first reaction is to judge and critique the sound of their own voice, I think that is just a natural thing for humans.

After learning to love my own voice, I realize that the real reason I didn't like my voice is because it scared me. Yep that's right, the sound of my own voice scared me because the truth is that my voice is POWERFUL! And it scared me to think of all the ways I could change and improve my life and the lives of others through the power of my voice!

And the reality is that YOU also have limitless POWER hidden within your own voice and the key to accessing this power is learning to LOVE the sound of your own voice without judgement.
